Albert von Le Coq was born on 8th September 1860 in Berlin, Germany, and he died on 21st April 1930 (aged 70 years) in Berlin, Germany. Albert was a brewery owner and wine merchant who got interested in archaeology later in life. He became a famous explorer of Central Asia. He planned and organized expeditions into Asia, especially near the Silk Route. Albert was chosen to lead one of these expeditions on which they found a network of Buddhist cave temples in China. They claimed to have discovered a Manichaean library but most of the manuscripts were destroyed during the excavations.
Do you know: All the artifacts that were excavated were put on display in the museum in Germany and were destroyed when the British bombed it during World War II.
