Interesting fact : Helen Keller brought the first Akita to the USA in 1937. The akita comes from the Spitz stock (like the Siberian husky), found in the higher reaches of Japan. They may be American Inu or Japanese Akita Inu. There are two types of coats–long, called moku, and standard length. The breed was made famous by the film Hachiko, a true story about an Akita dog.
