A Wooden Coffin

Once, a farmer and his family lived in a village. The farmer was so old that he could not work in the fields any more. He would just sit on the porch all day. His son was very angry that his father did not help him at all. One day, the son built a wooden coffin, dragged it to the porch and asked his father to get in. The father climbed inside. The son closed the lid and dragged the coffin towards a high cliff. On the edge of the cliff, he realised that someone was standing behind him. When he turned back, he saw a monk. The monk said, “You can throw your father over the cliff, but keep this wooden coffin. Your children might need it.” The son was so ashamed that he begged his father for forgiveness and took him home.

Moral: How you treat your parents is how your children will treat you.
