Akbar enjoyed asking his courtiers strange questions to test their intelligence. One day, he asked, “How should I treat a person who pulls my moustache?” All the courtiers were taken aback. After a while, one of them said, “Your Majesty, such a person should be in jail.” Another courtier said, “No, Your Majesty, such a person should be beaten.” But other courtiers disagreed and said, Your Majesty, how dare someone pull your moustache? Such a person deserves a death sentence.” Birbal was listening to everyone. Just then, Akbar asked, “Birbal, what do you think?” “Your Majesty! Such a person should be given sweets,” said Birbal with a smile. Akbar was surprised. He said, “Birbal, why do you say this?” Birbal said, “Yes, Your Majesty! None can pull your moustache, except your grandson. So he should be given sweets.” Everyone laughed out loud. Birbal always spread happiness with his positive thinking.
