Once, Raman asked the king for a loan. To this the king thought that Raman might be asking as he might not have repaid other loans and, hence, couldn’t ask the same people again for money.
The king said he could be generous but Raman couldn’t get away without paying back as in other cases.
Raman reassured that the money would be paid back. After having the money Raman stopped coming to the court and, hence, the king grew very suspicious. He decided to call Raman. On reaching Raman’s house he saw him covered up like a sick man with wife sitting beside him.
She said he had been ill since he borrowed money. The very thought of not repaying his affecting him. Hearing this, the king said he would not take the sum as repaid so that Raman might get well soon.
As Raman heard this, he got up from the bed and said that his burden was off from his chest. He was well again and smiled mischievously.
