Petunia, Farmer Leyland’s cat, was very inquisitive. The farm animals were a bit fed up because Petunia would always turn up to listen if they wanted to have a good chat! One evening, a little fairy had fallen asleep in the rose creeper outside the stable. She woke up hearing Jessie, the cow, saying, “There she comes! Why can’t she stay at the fireside, instead of listening to everything we say!” The fairy thought Jessie was talking about her till she saw Petunia creeping up and realised what the matter was. She decided to have a little fun and to help the animals. Petunia saw a mouse and ran after it, not knowing it was actually a fairy! Suddenly there was a loud splash! The mouse had taken Petunia to the pond and, when she pounced, the mouse flew off! Poor Petunia fell into the water she hated and came back dripping!
