Patrick was a new boy in the school. As he was a small boy, the class bully, Harry, started calling him, “Pat, the small gnat!” Soon all the children in the class started teasing Patrick as ‘Pat, the small gnat’. Patrick felt terrible and avoided everyone. One day, the window was open and a big gnat flew into the classroom. All the children screamed with fear except Patrick. He was not afraid. He stood up and bravely waved a ruler at the gnat. After a few seconds, the gnat flew out of the window again. Suddenly Keith, the smallest boy in the class, spoke up, “Gnats are not so little after all. And Patrick is not a gnat. He is a hero!” Everyone started clapping for Patrick. He was very happy that day. He was a hero; it was no matter how many names others called him! Harry apologised to Patrick for being mean and became his good friend.
