The Black Mountain Witch was a dreaded name. Nobody had seen her. However, everybody believed that she lived on the mountain top. They said that she created fearsome spells and cast them on her unfortunate enemies. One year, winter was very harsh. Blizzards blew in every day and snow piled up sky-high. The sun had gone into hiding. The village people were tired and sad. One morning, everybody woke up to a loud roaring noise. They got up and peaked out of the windows. Near the frozen fountain in the middle of the village, the Black Mountain Witch stood chanting. The people watched curiously from the safety of their homes and then:
The snow began to melt
The sky began to clear,
The sun began to shine
The people felt no fear!
The spell of Joy was cast
By the Witch of Black Mountain,
For she is good, for she’s our friend
The people sang around the fountain.
