One day, the royal guards brought a robber to Akbar’s court and said, “Your Majesty, this man has robbed many people’s gold and money.” Akbar roared, “Why did you rob so many people?” The robber said, “Your Majesty, it is God’s will. How can I be punished for things that were directed by God?” Birbal went near the robber and whispered, “Give me all your gold or I shall kill you.” The robber immediately revealed where he had hidden all the gold. Birbal turned to Akbar and said, “This robber should be hanged, Your Majesty!” The robber cried, “Liar! I gave out the hiding place, so you would save me.” Birbal replied, “It was God’s will that I take your gold and get you hanged.” The robber learnt his lesson. Akbar punished him for his bad deeds. Birbal returned all the gold and money to the actual owners.
