Revolution is the movement of the Earth around the Sun in its orbit. The revolution is commonly known as the annual cycle of the Earth. The revolution of the Earth takes place from west to east, same as the rotation. The Earth takes 365.25 days to complete one revolution and this period is referred as one year. The pathway on which the Earth travels around the Sun, the orbit is elliptical. This elliptical shape is responsible for changing distance between the Sun and the Earth. It is also responsible for the change in the season. When the Earth is at the farthest point on the ellipse of the orbit, the part of the Earth facing away from the Sun, experiences winter season.
