Solomon’s rule continued for more than forty years. The people of some of his tribes were not happy with him, as he forced them to pay heavy taxes and made them work hard without paying anything to them. After the death of Solomon, Rehoboam became king. The leader of the northern tribes wanted someone to go to the new King and ask him to be good to them, as they couldn’t pay any more taxes. Jeroboam offered to go to the King, and requested him to cut down on the taxes and if he did so, the tribe would remain loyal to him. Rehoboam asked him to give three days as he wanted to think about it, and asked him to come back later.
