Solomon was wise and good, and respected and followed the instructions of God. As years passed by, he started spending more money than he earned. He got his money from taxes and far-off lands. However, he too soon became a debtor and forced the people of his land to work for free. This made them poor and sad. God was not happy with this, and wanted to punish Solomon for his act. As God had promised his father not to take away the kingdom, he said to Solomon, “ I will be taking away from you ten out of twelve tribes and give it to the new King.”
