Saul soon became a good and powerful king. However the Philistines were one step ahead of him, as they had blacksmiths with them who were experts in making good, reliable, and useful weapons. They also repaired them, so he didn’t have to worry any further. This skill was strictly not taught to the Israelites and at the time of war, they completely refused to repair them for the Israelites. At one point in time, only Saul and his son had good weapons to fight the war. Many of the soldiers were frightened about defending it, and thus left the army. Jonathan knew that many of the Philistine soldiers were resting on the rock top, so he and his son went ahead to capture them. They went ahead to capture the attention of their enemies, and slowly went ahead to defeat them.
