Winter was over. At the farm everyone was shearing the sheep. Farmer Claus had a large flock and needed lots of men. All the farmers helped one another to get the shearing done. Sheep were caught and held, while one man sheared and another applied a lotion all over each sheep. They were dunked in a large tub of water before all this and once again shearing was tough work. Jem, the sheepdog, was training his young pup, Tom. They were having a wonderful time chasing the sheep into pens and the dogs had got thoroughly wet too. Suddenly, Tom fell into the tub of water. He hadn’t yet learnt to swim! Jem dived in and there was a great deal of noise and splashing. Farmer Claus pulled him out and asked laughingly, “Have you any wool, Tom?” Tom had no wool but he became a good sheepdog!
