The deer is a strictly herbivorous mammal, with a keen sense of smell and speed. There are approximately 60 sub-species of the animal. Male deer (barring the Chinese water deer–they have tusks) shed their antlers each year. The largest deer is the moose, and the smallest is the pudu. Most species are endangered or vulnerable due to poaching and deforestation.
