The Thief and the Monk

A monk lived a simple life in a small hut. One night, when the monk was in the forest, a thief entered the hut. However, he found nothing to steal. Just then, the monk returned. “I am sure you have come a long way to visit my humble hut,” he said to the thief, “I will not let you return home emptyhanded. Please take my clothes as a gift.” The thief was shocked. He had never met someone who readily gave away his only possession! As he was about to run away, the monk pointed at the moon, “I wish I could give you this beautiful moon, but the precious things in life are for all to share and not to hide or steal!” The thief was so impressed by the monk that he stopped stealing and became his disciple.
