The Prince with Five Weapons

Once, the Bodhisattva was born as the prince of Benaras. A fortune-teller proclaimed, “The prince will be a great king.” When the prince turned sixteen, he went to Takshashila to study. When he graduated, his teacher gifted him five weapons and sent him back to Benaras. On the way, the prince passed a forest. The local people warned him about a narak, but the prince was fearless and confronted him. He used all his weapons against the narak, but they would only stick to the hair on his body. The prince said, “You can eat me if you want, but there is a diamond weapon in my belly. If you eat me, the diamond will cut your intestines into pieces. Destroying life always leads to suffering.” The narak was so impressed with the prince that he stopped hurting people and decided to become a monk. The prince happily returned home, became a king and ruled for many years.

Moral: Destroying life leads to suffering.
