Why do your lips get chapped more in winters?

Much like hands, lips are almost always exposed to the external elements. Since our lips don’t have oil glands, they are unable to get a buffer from extreme temperature. Winter air is dry, so it dries our lips even more. Another reason is the close proximity of the lips to the tongue, which, unknowingly to us, will lick the lips from time to time. After we have licked our lips, the saliva evaporates and makes them even drier than they were before they were licked. This adds to the feeling of chapness and the need for relief.
