Colonel Harland Sanders was six when his father passed away. While his mother went to work, he took care of his three-year-old brother and baby-sister. Thus, Colonel Harland became an expert at cooking. After working through the menial jobs, the young teenager joined the army as a private. When he was forty, Colonel Harland opened a service station and began serving food for hungry travellers. As more people started coming, he opened a small restaurant just across the street. Over the next nine years, he used a secret blend of eleven herbs and spices. Sadly, a new highway was planned and Colonel Harland had to end his business. After paying his bills, he just had USD104 left with him. Then, he travelled across the country, cooking his fried chicken for restaurants until they liked it. Then, he made a deal for a nickel for each chicken they sold. Thus, Colonel Harland Sanders became a pioneer of Kentucky’s Fried Chicken.
