When Truth Dawned

Joseph was a very irresponsible boy. He did no work and never helped his parents. He always misused his father’s money in parties and shopping. Joseph never looked after his father’s business. His parents always asked him to change his behaviour but he never listened to them. Finally, Joseph’s father went to meet his elder brother, Wilson. He told Wilson everything about his son and asked him to visit his home, and talk to his son. The next day, Wilson went to his brother’s house and met Joseph. Joseph was happy to meet his uncle after so long. He hugged him and Wilson could see the happiness on Joseph’s face after meeting him. They had dinner together and talked for many hours. Uncle Wilson didn’t say a single word what his father told him but Joseph understood why his uncle had visited their home. He was ready for the scolding he was going to receive.

The next morning, Uncle Wilson was getting ready to go back home. He put on his coat and then asked Joseph, “Will you please help me tie the laces of my shoes? I am old now, so it is difficult for me to bend. My hands also shake and I cannot tie them.” Joseph tied his uncle’s shoelaces willingly. “Thank you, my son,” said Uncle Wilson, “People become older and weaker day by day, and need someone to take care of them.”
Now Joseph understood everything and realised his mistake. He felt guilty for what he did with his parents and their money. He realised that his mother and all those who had looked after him had become old. It was now his turn to look after them and to take on the responsibilities of the household and the community. From that day, he took all the responsibility of business and looked after his parents.
