
My ambition is to take part in the Olympics. I got really enthusiastic about the idea when I was watching the television coverage of the last Olympics in Athens. I thought how wonderful it must be to represent your country at such an international sports meeting.
I know that very few people do get the chance to take part in the Olympics. I also know that it is highly likely that I will never achieve my ambition. However, I am quite serious about it and I am going to do all I can to fulfill my dream.
If ever I do take part in the Olympics it will be as a swimmer. I have been a very keen swimmer since I was a child. My mother says I started swimming lessons before i was two years old. According to Mum, the swimming teacher said right away that I had a real aptitude for swimming.
I love swimming and I go to the swimming pools as often as possible. I still take lessons and I have ha d a really good coach, Jim Black, for the past two years. I have improved a great deal under his supervision. I know that I will have to train really hard if I am ever to become a member of our national team.
At the moment I am a member of our school team. All the schools in the area take part in an annual inter-schools swimming competition. Our school has won it for the past three years. It is a really good feeling to be part of a winning team.
I have to get up very early in the morning to train at the swimming pools before school. Sometimes I feel too tired to go. Then I think of my Olympic dream. I immediately feel more enthusiastic about training.
