West Lake

West-Lake

The West Lake is a freshwater lake that is divided into 5 sections by three causeways. It is located in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, in China. 2,000 years ago, the West Lake was still a part of the Qiantang River, but soil sedimentation over many decades resulted in its formation.

Why it is special: Abundant in natural beauty and ancient relics, the West Lake has been a source of inspiration for Chinese garden designers. Poets, artists and painters have been influenced by its serenity and mysterious allure. The Lake contains within it numerous temples, pagodas, gardens and artificial islands that only add to its charming splendour.
