The vanara sena decided not to fast but settled down to decide how to go across the sea to Lanka. They calculated the distance each of them could leap, but none could cover the distance in one leap! Jambavan, the wise old bear, suddenly turned to Hanuman, sitting quietly as the others discussed the matter. He spoke about the profound wisdom and tremendous strength of Hanuman, who was so humble that he was unaware of his great potential. He was the son of Vayu, the wind-god, who blessed Anjana, his mother, a divine being born in a monkey tribe. Hanuman was born with force and speed greater than wind. He reminded Hanuman about the incident when he lost his powers. One day, mistaking the Sun for a fruit, infant Hanuman took off to pluck and eat it. Indra, trying to protect the Sun, used his weapon, Vajra, on the child and broke his jaw. Vayu was so angry that he withheld his power, so all air stopped.
