Self confidence is all about knowing your inner strength and believe in it. For why then should a child have obsession for its mother, stalking her wheresoever she goes, or sulk when left alone, hesitate in picking up job, and avoid meeting strangers? All this implies that child carries a sense of insecurity. So to say, he is lacking in self esteem.

A child doesn’t seem to realise that he can do-it-on-his-own. And that all that is required of him for this is a belief in self and a cover of emotional security.
Lack of self confidence
In a man’s life nothing in as calamitous as lack of self confidence. It plummets a man’s will power and lands him into quagmire of suspicion and subjugation. Shadow of imagined failures stalks and haunts him. A person lacking in self confidence can scarce look deep into another’s eyes. He stammers while speaking, hesitates in speaking his mind, fears picking up a new venture, and looses steam mid-stream. Such poor souls often leave their jobs unfinished, suffer guilt complex arising therefrom and may take recourse to suicide or other such act of cowardice.
Jack up self confidence
Outcome of all human endeavours depend on two factors. One, your personality. Two, your self confidence. Far from being two separate elements, these are two faces of one and the same coin. If you can muster control over one, the other is automatically controlled. That is, if you develop your personality—you develop your self confidence.

Power of self confidence steers a person near to his destination. It is this very element which makes man great and enabls him explore new frontiers of knowledge. Says Swet Marden: Self confidence is key to worldly victories. If you have it, success comes to you running. Immutable self confidence is what makes a winner tick. Indeed self confidence is a miracle par excellence. The only cogent answer for our failures is lack-of-self confidence.”
Enabled by self confidence, we get inspiration to work on way to success. A confident man carries an aura of power and strength. He walks with head held high, looks deep into your eyes, and talks cogent and clear. He is a source of solace security and boundless joy for one and all.
How to increase your self confidence
Even a minuscule of a creature like ant can have a mountain of self confidence.
It tries to scale a wall umpteen times but slips and falls down. But in the long last it does make it to the top of wall. Same holds true for spider who encounters repeated failures in spinning its web. But it never calls quit till job is done in all respects. Imagine if these creatures were to loose their self confidence and give up mid way. Ant would then never again climb a wall and spider would never have a safe and secure home. Ditto for man. He too shouldn’t slacken on his self confidence, and never feel defeated. Rather he should go on crossing new frontiers in intellectual development, awareness, creativity and work arena.

Ego is no arrogance
It isn’t uncommon to see a self confident person being short changed for vanity. This is far from correct. Self esteem is one thing, arrogance quite another. Self confidence is spiritual elixir, whereas pride is basal and reprehensible high. One surface though ego and ostentation appear as one, but in substance they are poles apart. Similarly non-violence and cowardice seem inseparable from outside, but on the inside these are diverse and mutually contradictory.
A self conscientious person goes about in life accepting that magnanimity of human soul, common sense, labour, studies, circumstances, cooperation, awareness, doggedness and honesty are key to sanguine success. Self confidence means remaining firm on path of duty, whereas pride is just the opposite. Of all the frailties of mankind, one most abhorred by almighty is the vice of arrogant conduct. God lies at the core of all manifestation material as well as non-material. If we compare whole lot of universe with His endless compassion, man would appear to be a nonentity all together. What use then this false sense of pride and one-up-manship?
