Tractor

Benjamin Holt created his first steam traction engine on an experimental basis in the year 1890. He nicknamed it as ‘Old Betsy’. It weighed about 18,000 pounds and would run on metal wheels. Harvesting of the fields became easy with the help of Holt’s invention. However, these equipment were so heavy that they often would get stuck in the earth. Holt went on improvising his traction engine and in 1892, he invented the steam-driven tractor, which was in a position to haul 50 short tons of freight at the rate of 3 miles per hour. Until then, it was only animal power that was used to serve this purpose. Thus, the invention of the tractor was considered to be a huge breakthrough. Benjamin Holt even became the president that particular year and incorporated the Holt Manufacturing Company. The track type tractor was successfully launched in the fields of England on 24 November, 1904, by Holt.
