Thimithi

Thimithi

Thimithi or the Fire-walking Festival takes place in various parts
of South India, Singapore, Sri Lanka and South Africa.

Do you know:Thimithi is a part of a two-and-a-half-month-long ceremony where the community re-enacts the parts of the Mahabharata. Thimithi is the devotion shown by the members of the community towards goddess Draupadi. Devotees follow a priest into a 2.7-metre long pit that is laid with burning sandalwood in exchange for the goddess’s blessings. Neem and turmeric are attached to the wrists of the devotees as they walk across the pit and then soak their feet in a second pit filled with milk.
