One day, a poor woodcutter, riding his cart, was caught in a bad storm. He prayed, “God, please save me.” Suddenly, the cart came to rest. The woodcutter thanked God and came out of the cart. He saw a huge palace whose walls were full of precious stones. A voice said, “You are a kind man. Take anything you want.” The woodcutter chose a diamond for his wife and a ruby for his daughter. He put them in his pocket, and left for his home. His wife and daughter cried with joy on seeing him. He took out the diamond and the ruby. His pocket felt heavy, so he shook it out. Out tumbled, many more precious stones! “But I had picked only two!” he said. The voice spoke again, “You did not think of yourself, so, these are for you.” Since then, the woodcutter and his family lived a happy life.
