Everyone said that a witch lived in the dark forest. One day, Prince Felix got lost in the forest. Seeing a hut he rode to it. The door was opened by a wrinkled old woman. She welcomed the prince with food and a bed to rest on. At dawn, the prince awoke. He saw that a pretty girl was bringing in wood and setting a cauldron on the fire. She went out and the prince sat up. When the witch came in, Prince Felix asked, “Where’s the girl? Is she your servant?” The witch said, “There’s no servant.” The prince was sure that she had kept the girl as a prisoner. He left after thanking her, but hid among the bushes. At night, he saw the girl again and caught her. “I was cursed to be a witch by day,” she said, “Now I’m free!” The prince took her to his kingdom to be his bride.
