The Wind and the Sun

One autumn afternoon, the wind and the sun had a quarrel. The wind boasted, “I am stronger than you.” The sun smiled and said, “You are not!” Just then, they saw a man travelling on the road. The wind said, “Whoever among us can take this traveller’s coat off, shall be regarded as the stronger one.” The sun replied, “You try first.” The wind began to blow as hard as it could upon the traveller. But the harder it blew, the more closely did the traveller wrap his coat around him, till at last, the wind had to give up in despair. Now it was the sun’s turn. It smiled gently and grew hotter and hotter. The man started to feel the heat of the sun, and finally, he took off his coat. In this way, the sun won over the wind. A gentle smile can achieve what a brutal force cannot.
