Hatim walked for many days in the wilderness, until he reached a village, where a villager allowed him to rest in his house. In the evening, when supper was served, the villager asked Hatim to join him for the meal. Hatim tasted the meat, but could not identify its taste. So, he asked his host, “I have tasted many animals, but I am unable to understand whose meat it is.” “Have you eaten a human?” asked his host. Hatim went pale with shock and asked his host, “How can you kill your fellow men?” “When someone in our clan falls sick, we kill him to relieve him of his sufferings and divide his meat amongst ourselves to consume,” said the host casually. “Do strangers also meet the same fate?” asked Hatim and the host nodded his head in affirmation. When night fell, Hatim ran as fast and as far as he could, from the village of cannibals!
