Once upon a time, there were two girls, Afia and Femi, who were very good friends. They were always together and loved each other very much. They bought the same dresses and ate the same food. When people looked at them, they always said, “What good friends they are!” But, there was a young man who did not believe that the two girls could be so good friends. He thought to find it out himself. The next day, the young man stopped the two girls in the street. “Good morning,” he said, “I want to speak to one of you.” The girls disagreed and said that the two of them were friends and if he wished to speak, he must talk to both of them together. “I don’t want to speak to both of you. I will speak to only one of you. Then, she can tell the other what I said.” And he whispered to Afia, “You, you, you, you. Do you hear me?” The girl answered, “Yes.”
The End of Friendship
Saying this, the young man went away. Then, Femi asked Afia what the man had said to her. “He said nothing to me,” said Afia, “He whispered you, you, you, you.” “And what about me, me, me, me?” Femi asked. “But it was not about you. It was only ‘you’,” replied Afia. Femi was little angry and said, “But you said ‘yes’ to him! You don’t want to tell me everything!” Afia remarked. “Oh, you silly girl! I told you he said only ‘you’!” “So, you don’t want to tell me anything and I am your friend,” said Femi. Afia got furious and said that they were no longer friends. She did not wish to have such a silly friend. “You are a liar!” said Femi. “I’m not. But you are very, very silly!” remarked Afia. Then, Afia went in one direction and Femi in the opposite direction. This was the end of their long friendship.
