Hatim found many chests of hidden treasure in the pit. He took them out with the help of the two helpers. He thanked them and gave them a part of the treasure in gratitude. He then said to himself, ‘What can I do with this treasure? I should give it to the family of thugs who robbed me and left me dying in the dark pit. It will help them to become better persons, for poverty can make a man act like an animal.’ He went in search of the thugs’ family. When he found them, he handed them the wealth. They were touched by his generous act and promised him that they would never again harm any traveller. They would, in fact, provide food and shelter to them. This assured Hatim that he made the correct decision. So, with a peaceful mind, he continued his journey once again.
