The Theory of Smells and Sounds

The-Theory-of-Smells-and-Sounds

Mulla and his donkey sat down to enjoy a feast outside the city gates when he heard men arguing outside the meat shop. “You have been enjoying the rich smells from my shop, all evening. You must pay for it!” the meat seller demanded from a poor looking traveller. “Give me all the money you have,” said Mulla to the poor man when he came there. The poor man tearfully emptied his purse on Mulla’s palm. Mulla cupped his hands and said to the meat seller, “Listen carefully!” And he shook the cup of his palms making the coins jingle. “Yes, I hear that! Now give me the money,” said the meat seller. But Mulla returned the coins back to the poor man. “He savoured the smells of your cooking and you enjoyed the sounds of his coins. That settles the accounts!” said Mulla. The meat seller was shocked! The poor man had thanked Mulla before he left.
