The lion decided to get himself a cat, since all the villagers seemed to use cats to catch mice. One day, he brought a cat to catch the mouse. He flattered the cat and requested it to keep an eye on the mouse. The cat was fed plentifully, and the lion talked sweetly to it. The alert cat did not allow the mouse to come near the lion. Every night, when it was time for the lion to sleep, he gave lots of food to the cat and set it to catch the mouse. For many days the clever little mouse managed to escape the cat’s clutches. But one day, the mouse peeped out of its hole. The cat was waiting for it right outside and pounced on it, killing it. After that, the lion had no use for the cat any more, so he neglected it till it died of starvation.
