The Serpent’s Tale

Hatim was resting in the beautiful garden, when he saw some fairies approach him. They offered him food of the finest quality. He was hungry and tired. However, he refused to eat anything until the sender of the food came in front of him. Hatim wondered who his host was, when the serpent appeared once again. Hatim was about to run away, when it said to him, “Do not be afraid of me. I am the fairy king Shams Shah. In my younger days, I was so full of pride that I did not follow the instructions of the saint who ruled our land. I killed humans to show my dominance. As a punishment, I was converted into a serpent and cursed to stay as the one, till a kind human came and prayed for me.” Hearing this, Hatim prayed for Shams Shah, and instantly, the king was restored to his original form.
