The prince was a very vain and foolish man. He loved wearing new clothes and showing them off. A pair of rogues, who knew this, decided to cheat him, saying they could weave gold cloth for a regal dress out of golden coins. “But the dress can only be seen by intelligent people!” they added. The prince gave them a roomful of gold and asked them to begin spinning, weaving and stitching his new clothes. When he came every day to see how the work was going on, he could not see anything! But he dared not say he couldn’t see it as they would think him unintelligent! One day, the rogues announced that the dress was ready and the prince said that he would wear it for a parade through the city. None dared to say anything to the prince, till a child shouted, “The prince is not wearing any clothes!”
