“Catherine is a very dignified name, but it just doesn’t suit the princess!” said many people in the palace. “Dignified!” said the palace cook, “Yesterday she was climbing up a tree and was stuck in it!” “Yes,” said the stable groom, “We brought her down! And today she was chased by the goat because she went into its pen to tie ribbons on it!” “Oh, dear,” said Nanny, “She set the curtain on fire last night! No wonder she’s called the Naughty Kitty!” One morning, an elegant lady arrived at the palace to stay. “This is Miss Ferrier who will be governess to the princess,” announced the queen. Horrified, the princess exclaimed, “Governess! For me? I’ll die of boredom!” But Miss Ferrier was very gentle and very firm. Kitty couldn’t get rid of her, no matter what mischief she tried. She learnt to respect her, and soon everyone saw that Kitty was behaving very well, as a princess should!
