There were three friends, a monkey, a dog and a carabos, who got fed up of living in a town and went off to live in the country to hunt. They took some rice, meat and a few utensils and went off.
When they reached their new home, the monkey and the dog went out to hunt. The carabos stayed at home to cook. He began to fry the meat they had brought.
In the forest lived a huge ogre. He smelt the fragrance of the meat and heard it sizzling. He crashed through the trees and found the carabos.
Going up to him, the ogre said, “You are cooking meat for me, I see.” The carabos charged at the ogre to chase him out but he was grabbed by the horns and flung into a mud pit. Then the ogre ate up all the food and went off.

When the monkey and the dog returned, their house was in a mess and the carabos had sunk knee-deep into the slush. They hauled him out and as they ate, he told them about the ogre. The ogre watched them from a distance but didn’t attack them as they were three.
The next day, the dog stayed to cook while the others went hunting. Once again, the ogre came. The frightened dog cowered in a corner while the ogre ate up the food and departed.
The next day, it was the monkey’s turn to cook. When the others had gone, he dug a pit near the stove and then began cooking rice. When the ogre came, he invited him in. The ogre rushed in and fell into the pit, which the monkey filled quickly, burying him.
The dog and the carabos returned to learn what had happened. Thinking the ogre was dead, they dug the pit, but were horrified to find him alive. He killed the dog and injured the carabos. The monkey climbed up a tree, determined to avenge his friend’s suffering.

The ogre found him near a beehive. “Please don’t kill me,” begged the monkey, “I’ll let you ring this bell. It marks every hour for the King. I’ll find out what hour it is and tell you,” he said as he vanished, leaving the bees to attack the ogre.
The injured ogre chased him and found him near a boa constrictor. It’s a belt gifted by the King,” said the monkey, “You can have it.” The ogre happily wound it around himself but the boa constrictor, angry at being disturbed, squeezed him to death.
