A woodcutter lived in a village. One day, while making a dining table, the woodcutter ran out of wood. He saw a huge tree and tried to cut it. A dwarf, who lived in that tree, called out to the woodcutter, “O woodcutter, this tree is my home. If you do not cut the tree, I will grant you a boon.” The woodcutter put down his axe and said, “I want an axe that will follow my command.” The dwarf gave him a magical axe. Now the woodcutter worked at home while the axe would cut wood on its own. It saved him time and the woodcutter made more furniture. But when the villagers saw the woodcutter’s axe following his commands, they thought he was an evil wizard. They ran away from him. The poor woodcutter returned the axe to the dwarf.
