There was once a flood in a village. A storm continued for two days and it did not stop raining. Water entered the people’s homes and their belongings started floating. The streets were full of cots, utensils, boxes and many other things. Amid these things were two pots, floating along at a distance. One was an earthen pot and the other was a brass pot. The brass pot said to the earthen pot, “Stay near me and I will protect you from the items floating around us.” The earthen pot replied, “Friend, thanks for your noble thoughts, but I am fine, away from you. Soon, we will be floating into the river, where the current will be strong and if I’m near you at the time, I will bang against you and shatter into pieces.” It’s wise if a person keeps away from a neighbour who is much stronger than he.
