King Ronald was taking a walk in his royal garden, one evening. After a while, he sat on a bench under the cool shade of a tree. Soon, he felt drowsy and took off his ring and kept it on the bench. Just as he lay down on the bench, a bird flew near him and took away his ring. “Guards! Look, the bird has taken my ring away,” cried the king. The guards saw that the bird went to her nest at the top of a tall tree. “Make sure you bring back my ring. It’s a family heirloom!” shouted the king from behind. One of the guards tried climbing up the tree, but the bird flew over and pecked him. So, the other guard brought a bowl full of corn for the bird. When the bird came down to eat, the first guard climbed up the tree and brought the king’s ring from her nest. The king rewarded the guards well.
