One day, a cow was drinking water from a container and got its head stuck in the narrow passage of the container. The cow’s owner and many passers-by saw what had happened, and some tried to prod the cow’s head out. But alas, the cow remained stuck, much to their dismay. Just then, Mulla Nasruddin was walking past them. “What happened?” he asked. “My cow’s head is stuck in that container,” replied the cow’s owner, “And we don’t know what to do. Mulla, please help us. Do you have any ideas?” Mulla examined the cow and the container, and thought for a while. As the container was made of clay, he had an idea. “Break the container,” said Mulla, “And take out the cow’s head.” The cow’s owner followed Mulla’s advice and broke the clay container. The passers-by were impressed with Mulla’s intelligence and clapped for him. The cow’s owner gave Mulla a container full of milk as a token
of thanks.
