Taffy was a very naughty rabbit. He thought that he was very clever and could do exactly what he wished. He lived with his parents in a burrow in Mr Gerald’s garden.
Some days ago, Taffy had sneaked into Mr Gerald’s house and tied all his shoelaces together. The next morning, Mr Gerald got late to office because he had to untie the laces!
Today Taffy had stuffed a carrot into the exhaust pipe of his car and it wouldn’t start. Again, Mr Gerald was late. And he had no idea who was playing these tricks on him.
Papa and Mama Rabbit were very angry with Taffy.
“Mr Gerald is a good man!” said Papa sternly, “He lets us eat the cabbages and the carrots in his garden. If you carry on like this, he will shoot us one day!”
Mama Rabbit decided to send Taffy to school and Papa agreed. So the next morning, Taffy was put into the school bus and sent to the school with a new school bag, books and new pencils.
Now, Taffy didn’t know what a school was and what to do there. He went along thinking that it was a new place to try out some more pranks!

When he reached there, he found that he had to stand in a line, sit still on a chair and read a lesson. The teacher wrote things on the blackboard and he was supposed to remember things! But the most terrible thing was that he couldn’t explore the school and think of pranks that could be played on the others!
‘How terrible!’ he thought, ‘How can I sit like this day after day when I could be having so much fun in Mr Gerald’s garden?’
Taffy came home looking miserable that evening. The teacher had given him something called homework and he was supposed to give his book to her tomorrow.
“It’s bad enough sitting still the whole day,” he grumbled, “Now I’m to waste time doing homework!”
Papa said, “That’s not a waste of time, Taffy!” So, Taffy finished his homework quietly.

The next day, Taffy found that all of them had to go out on a nature ramble. He learnt that some of the berries were very tasty and some would give him a stomach ache! He made friends with another rabbit named Peggy and a squirrel called Hub.
That night, Taffy was happy. He fell asleep dreaming of the games that he would play with Peggy and Hub. With each day, Taffy enjoyed school more. It was not such a bad place after all!
