Sheikh Chilli had once grown a long beard and a moustache. He was of the opinion that bearded men looked mature. One day, he overheard some people discussing whether a beard should be kept or not. A man said, “According to a great book of wisdom, people with long beards were stupid. The theory was quite interesting…” Sheikh got worried on hearing this. He feared he would look even more stupid with a beard. So he wanted to get rid of it. He searched for a pair of scissors at night, but couldn’t find any. So, he decided he would hold his beard over the oil lamp and it would shorten with the flame. But as soon as he held it near the flame, his beard caught fire, along with part of his moustache! When his mother saw him next morning, she was shocked. Sheikh said, “The great book of wisdom is right, Mother; bearded men do stupid things like I did.”
