Some students are good at studies and some are good at games. Very few students are good at both. I am one of the weakest girls of my class. All the year round I have to sit in the class with my head bent down. At least there is one day when I am at my best. That day is the sports day of our school. I am the captain of the Athletic Team of my school.
We celebrate our sports day in February every year. This year our chief guest was the Sports Secretary of the state.
The chief guest unfurled the flag. He was introduced to the athletes. The sports began with the 100 meter race. The pistol went off and the race began. I stood first in the race. The time-keeper was noting down the time with the help of a stopwatch. There were other races also. Many girls fell down while running. Humour and pity greeted them. The names of those who stood first, second and third were announced on the loud-speaker.
After this there were the long jumps and high jumps. These were exciting events. I stood first in high jump. I bettered my previous record. I was congratulated by my friends and teachers. Then there were shot put, hammer throw and many other events.
The chief guest distributed the prizes to the winners. I was declared the best athlete of the year. I won five medals. The chief guest praised the athletes. Our Principal thanked the chief guest. We stood attention and sang the National Anthem and the function came to an end.
