Sonia Gandhi is indeed the Superwoman of India. She has been denoted with this title, because of her inner qualities of head and heart.
This powerful personality of great virtues was born on
9 December 1946 as Sonia Maino, in a small town Obassano, situated in Italy.
Sonia had a selfless nature from the very childhood and thus was adored by all her relatives and friends alike.
She grew to be a beautiful damsel and attracted the attention of our late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, in year 1965.
Thereafter, they got married and began to lead a blissful married life. Both of them were greatly in love with one-another.
Sonia Gandhi adopted Indian life-style to impress Rajiv. She was a down-to-earth lady and never allowed pride to touch her.
Her mother-in-law, Indira Gandhi was immensely pleased to get a humble daughter-in-law. Sonia Gandhi played the role of a sincere wife, loving mother and an obedient daughter-in-law and brought abundant happiness in the Gandhi family.
Her life was running smoothly, till a tragedy struck her life. On May 21, 1991 Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was killed by a human bomb while campaigning for General Elections.
Sonia Gandhi was shattered to pieces, yet, she didn’t lose heart. She know that now her countrymen were leaning on her with a ‘hope’ of brighter future.
In the year 1998, she joined active politics to take the reins of nation bravely. In the 2004 general elections BJP with its allies (NDA) got defeated and Congress regained power with its allies (UPA). Sonia Gandhi was appointed as the President of United Progressive Alliance.
Initially Sonia Gandhi was chosen for the post of the Prime Minister but when some people of vested interests protested against this decision, she rejected the top position, outrightly, without any hesitation.
She has portrayed the virtue of ‘Selflessness’ throughout her life and thus, have attained popularity around the world. She is indeed a great woman, who is always ready to sacrifice her life for the country.
She is an Indian in a true sense.
