‘I’m sure I’ll find someone, somewhere, who is special,’ thought Prince John. He rode around the kingdom, looking for a bride, with his friend Robin. They arrived on a beach one day and saw a beautiful young girl who seemed to be floating on the waves. She came to the shore and placed something in a small basket. “Who are you?” asked the prince. “I am Pearl, the keeper of the waves,” replied the girl. “Why do waves need a keeper?” asked Prince John. “If they are not kept in order, they can rise up and cause havoc,” said the girl, “Besides, the waves love me and bring me things! Come and see.” Saying so she showed him the basket. It glowed because it was full of gems and shells. “Will you marry me?” asked Prince John. And when Pearl agreed, he took her up on his horse and gave the basket to his friend.
