All the fairies who were invited blessed the new-born princess, but the wicked fairy cursed that the princess would die on her sixteenth birthday, pricked by a spindle! One good fairy, however, said that the princess would fall asleep for a hundred years and wake up when a prince kissed her. The king ordered that all spinning wheels in the kingdom be destroyed. However, on her sixteenth birthday, the princess wandered into a tower where an old woman, who had not heard the king’s order, sat spinning. The princess fell unconscious after touching the spindle! The good fairy put a sleeping spell on everyone in the palace and thorn bushes grew up around it. After a hundred years, a prince cut through the forest and found the beautiful princess. She awoke as soon as the prince kissed her and the entire palace awoke! The prince and the princess were married and lived happily thereafter.
