The Sky Burial is an ancient and hidden funerary practice followed by the Buddhists, the Tibetans and the Mongolians.
Do you know: In this practice, the body of the deceased has to be cut into pieces.
The Sky Burial is considered to be an extreme form of ‘alms giving’ by the Tibetans. Members of family and relatives look on as the body of their loved one is cut and offered to vultures, so as to confront death and understand the impermanence of life. According to the Tibetans, vultures are angel-like creatures that would take the soul of the departed, to heaven.
