Saat Phere & Jaimala

Saat-Phere-&-Jaimala

Saat Phere and  Jaimala are a part of Hindu wedding customs.

Do you know: When it is the husband’s turn to garland his wife, very often her brothers lift her off the ground.

Saat phere is one of the most important aspects of the Hindu wedding customs. Saat phere, meaning seven circles around the holy fire amidst the chanting of holy Vedic mantras, symbolizes the vows made by the couple in the presence of the sacred fire. Each phera has its importance. After the pheras are done, the bride and the groom exchange flower garlands or Jaimala, as a symbol of love and respect.
